AgendaMrs. Luella Gross Goldberg will receive an honorary Blooming Forever Achievement AwardEvery year The Blooming Forever Foundation will donate five new Tulip cultivars, and names them after people who have made a difference in their community, their city, their country and the world. Blooming Forever has named that activity “The Blooming Forever Achievement Award”. People who previously received their own tulip are amongst others: President Yushchenko, President of Ukrain, for his efforts for democracy in The Ukrain. The motto for the Blooming Forever foundation is:“Make a Difference” The Tulip that will be named in honor of Luella Gross Goldberg will be called the Lulu G (R). It is a purple tulip, and has an outstanding vase life and excellent growth capacities.
Mrs. Goldberg, selected tulipnumber "BF0972" in The Netherlands. The Lulu G(R) Tulip will be officially registered and will be protected under the Plant Breeders Rights in The Netherlands.The tulip will also be registered in the International Classified List of Tulipnames, a 400 years old register, containing all the tulips that have ever been subscribed. Mrs. Goldberg is awarded the honor of having a Tulip named after her because of her devoted and never-ending service to her community, to higher education and to classical music. Mrs. Goldberg has been a Trustee of the University of Minnesota Foundation for more than three decades and was the first woman to serve as the Chair of the Board of the Foundation from 1996-1998. She received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Minnesota in May, 2007, in recognition of her achievements that added materially "to the betterment of society".The Honorary Degree is the highest award conferred by the University of Minnesota and the Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree is awarded to individuals who have achieved acknowledged eminence in public service. She is also a member of the Board of Overseers of the Carlson School of Management as well as a former member of the Hubert Humphrey Institute Advisory Board at the University of Minnesota. At Wellesley College, Mrs. Goldberg served as a Trustee of the College for eighteen years and as Chair of the Board of Trustees for eight years. She is the recipient of the prestigious Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Award in recognition of her many accomplishments in the not-for-profit and for-profit world. She served as Acting President of Wellesley College for several months in !993. She is currently Trustee and Chair of the Board Emerita of Wellesley College. Mrs. Goldberg served for nine years as a Regent of Saint John's University and received the Minnesota Private College Council Award for outstanding service to higher education. She is also the recipient of the University of Minnesota Regents Award for exceptionally valuable and meritorious service to the University. The Minnesota Orchestra has been the beneficiary of Mrs. Goldberg's service on the Board of Directors since 1972. In 1980, Mrs. Goldberg was elected the first woman to serve as Chair of the Board since the Orchestra's founding in 1903. She now serves as one of only ten LIfe Directors of the Orchestra and received the Orchestra's Distinguished Service Award when she completed her term as Chair in 1983. Many additional voluntary organizations have benefitted from her service on their Boards including Independent Sector (Washington D.C.), United Way, and the Northwest Area Foundation. Her work has garnered many awards in addtion to those mentioned above including the National Conference of Christians and Jews Award for distinguished humanitarian service and the Governor's Women's Leadership Award for service to the State of Minnesota. Furthermore, Mrs. Goldberg will receive her Tulip because of her distinguished and pioneering career as a corporate director. Her significant leadership has had an important impact in many places, including through the years as a member of ten corporate boards, often as the first woman serving in that capacity.
